Friendship Matters

Welcome to Visiting Friends

If you want to make a new friend, you’ve come to the right place!

Here at Visiting Friends we really understand just how hard being lonely or isolated feels and how much friendship really matters.

Maybe you’re new to the area, have health problems that mean it’s difficult to leave home or have lost someone close to you?

Using our services or volunteering with us can help get you connected again.

About Visiting Friends

Visiting Friends befriending service is a Scottish Registered charity.

We have been matching our Volunteers with new friends across Helensburgh and Lomond since 2013.

Our service is open to all adults (over 18 years of age) in the area – any individual, family or service can make a referral to us.

Our volunteers do not provide personal or medical care but are there to provide friendship and company.

Our volunteers are male and female of all different ages and backgrounds, carefully recruited and trained by us: they are reference-checked and undergo a disclosure check as part of the government Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme.

We offer two services:

Visiting Friends – our Volunteers normally meet up with their friend once a week at home or they go out together for a cuppa etc.

Talking Friends – our Volunteers make a regular weekly telephone call to their friend for a chat and a catch-up.

We also normally run coffee mornings throughout the year for our Friends and social events just for our Volunteers.
